There are numerous animals that are in the world that we are able to admire and look at. But at times we do not notice some of the more simpler of the species. One animal that we see rather frequently - but do now know much about is the squirrel.

Squirrels are part of the Sciuridae family - also well-known as the rodent family. It is hard to believe that something as cute as this can be connected to rats and mice. There are numerous contrasting kinds of squirrels that include the gray, tree, and flying squirrels. Though they are referred to as flying squirrels this type only have the ability to coast when jumping from one spot to the other.

These animals cannot digest cellulose that is in different foods. Because of this they should consume foods that have large amounts of fat, protein, and carbs. Around spring time some of the nuts that they buried are beginning to sprout making them untouchable for them to eat. When this happens they have to find the buds of trees to feed themselves.

During the summer months they can eat nuts, fruits, fungi, seeds, green vegetation, and conifer cones. It is viable to find some species of squirrels that will consume insects, small birds, eggs, snakes, and other rodents. Yet, they commonly only do this when they are starving.

Many people can see squirrels running around their neighborhoods looking for food and climbing up and down trees. They can be friendly when you seek to give them food and can frequently be seen trying to steal food from bird feeders.
